MST denounces the imprisonment of four members of the Movement
MST publicly denounces and strongly repudiates the imprisonment of four young members of the Movement after a dramatization in the Chamber of Federal Deputies in solidarity with the victims of Mariana and against the new Mining Code, last Wednesday (25) in Brasilia, while denouncing the environmental crime caused by the Samarco mining company and by Vale.
Ironically, the militants were detained and transferred to a civil police jail, charged with an environmental crime for carrying out a dramatization where they brought clay and water, precisely to denounce the crime committed by the mining company. The sum of the accusations entails 4 years in prison.
Four young members of MST were jailed for dirtying the walls of the Chamber with mud (they were clean minutes after) in a theatrical dramatization while directors from Vale, responsible for deaths, the disappearances of persons, the destruction of hundreds of homes, the environmental pollution due to toxic mud, and they are all still free?!
This act of violence by the Legislative Police in addition to other recent episodes in the chamber simply show the arbitrariness of the Chamber's President, Eduardo Cunha (PMDB-RJ), cornered by a myriad of protests requesting that he leaves the chamber's presidency due to recent accusations of corruption involving him.
The nearly 200 lawyers gathered in the Meeting of the National Network of Popular Lawyers (Renap) held a vigil on last night (26), in front of the Specialized Police headquarters, place where the young members are being detained.
The MST hopes that proper measures are taken by the judicial branch in order to revise this anti-democratic position that violates human rights, taken by the current stands of the "House of the People".
