Source: Brasil De Fato May 10, 2016
Organized in the Frente Brasil Popular [Popular Brazil Front] and Povo
Sem Medo [People Without Fear] demonstrations took place today in
several cities of the country.
Since 6 a.m., people began to gather in what they called the National
Day of Struggle for Democracy and Against the Coup. Roadways were
blocked in, at least, 11 states. Also, stoppages were registered during
the day, which were convened by workers’ unions.
The aim is to promote “joint actions in defense of democracy, against
the coup and against the cutting of our rights”, according to Raimundo
Bonfim, general coordinator of the Central of Popular Movements (CMP),
in reference to the impeachment process on Dilma Rousseff, which is not
under treatment in the Senate.
According to the coordinator of the Homeless Workers’ Movement
(Portuguese: Movimento dos Trabalhadores Sem Teto, MTST) Guilherme
Boulos, mobilizations this Tuesday will be “a message to the
opposition: they may win now but they won’t be able to govern”.
